Project Highlight

  • The Coral Academy, led by Professor Apple Chui, Research Assistant Professor from the School of Life Sciences, is an outreach programme to promote the conservation of corals and marine biodiversity. The Academy offers a diverse range of community engagement activities, including seminars, workshops, eco-tours, and lab visits.
  • Delivered two public workshops on coral biology, the importance of coral conservation and the work of the Coral Academy
  • Participants established a stronger connection with corals and nature through a series of hands-on activities including coral cookies painting, adopt-a-coral session, visits to coral culturing facilities and coral tanks

Project Impact

Promotion of marine conservation

Through hands-on experience with live coral samples and other activities, participants were able to understand the importance of marine conservation

Utilization of workshop knowledge in teaching students

Engaged school teachers making good use of the knowledge they learned in the workshop to teach their students

Inspire individual action

Encouraged each participant to take at least one action to protect the marine environment via their social media platforms
